Nebraska is inspiring, but not for the usual reasons. I spent a portion of the year going from county to county in 2013, meeting people I never really needed to meet, but who were happy to see and acquaint an out-of-towner. Despite the blankness of most of the landscape, memories were formed and ideas began to grow that I never really thought would come to much.

But hearing about the determined effort of by the Internet™ to complete Sufjan Steven's Fifty States Project, I decided to let these thoughts become something real. Writing and recording over four days in the Christmas break of 2013 at my parent's house, I sought to keep the setup simple, and planned to just have it as a guitar and vocals album. But damn, if I don't love my parent's old piano - and some probably unrequired additional instruments I added in over the following month or so. The end result is a release for me, allowing me to let those times to be boxed away neatly in my head or just to fade away, like the landscape of Nebraska did as I left its borders. But it is yours to judge, consume, and play alongside Alexander Payne's quietly powerful 2013 film as much as you want. Thanks for listening - if you actually do.
